Winterizing and Sanitizing

Do I still need to winterize my plumbing?

Yes! The RoamRig plumbing upgrade does NOT have any active freeze protection (e.g. line heating). You should still plan to winterize your system when appropriate. It should be much easier to winterize because our upgrade simplifies the plumbing with fewer connections and pipes. There's really no getting around one of those winterization procedures for any system.

To winterize:

  • Using air (see video below): first, drain your tank. Then set the valve to City Water to blow out the lines, moving air from the port straight to the fixtures. After the lines are blown out, you'll need to add a little RV antifreeze to the pump.
  • Using RV antifreeze (see 2:02 in video below): first, drain your tank. Then, set the valve to Siphon Fill, then siphon the antifreeze through the port into your water tank. Then, switch the valve to Use Tank to move the antifreeze to your van fixtures from the tank.

Note: the below video shows the plumbing panel in a 1st Generation Revel. The concepts covered also apply to 2nd and 3rd Generation Revels with the RoamRig plumbing panel in the back of the van.

How can I sanitize my plumbing?

The best way to add sanitizer to your system is to pump it into the tank. We recommend RV tank and line sanitizer. Use a small 12V pump to push it into the tank via the water fill port, and then use the Winnebago pump to push it through the system.

We do NOT recommend using bleach because it is a caustic solution for some plastics and rubbers.
