      Updating inverter firmware

      Only update your inverter firmware if are having an issue and have been directed to do so by RoamRig support!

      Identifying Your Inverter Version

      There are two inverter versions in RoamRig power upgrades, which are identifiable by the serial number that is printed on the back of your inverter remote:

      • KT serial numbers (most installations prior to spring 2024)
      • KT-J serial numbers – shown in below image

      Items Needed (both inverter versions)

      • Inverter remote and cord that were supplied to you when your system was installed. Some cords are pre-installed in the inverter, based on your Revel generation and inverter version.
      • Flash drive 16gb or under that is freshly formatted to Fat32 (if using Windows) or MS-DOS (Mac equivalent of Fat32). Instructions here for Mac and here for Windows. NOTE: IF THE FLASH DRIVE IS NOT COMPLETELY EMPTY AND FORMATTED CORRECTLY, YOU MAY "BRICK" YOUR INVERTER WHICH NECESSITATES REPLACEMENT OF THE INVERTER!!

      Download inverter firmware THAT MATCHES YOUR INVERTER VERSION (below). Do not extract this file or change the name. Put the file on the flash drive.

       

      KT Inverters - Update Steps: 

      • Download this inverter firmware update (version 3.5): PyUpdata.bin
        DO NOT try to open/unzip/double click the file before moving the file to the USB drive. This exact file needs to be put on the USB file.
      • Ensure that you are not connected to shore power and that the inverter toggle switch on the RoamRig control panel is OFF!
      • Turn on the inverter using the remote and look at Rx.x rx.x (firmware revision levels). If the Rx.x is below 1.8, please contact RoamRig for instructions on how to proceed as you CANNOT go straight to 3.5 without an interim step. 
      • Follow steps in the video below. DO NOT TURN THE INVERTER OFF OR REMOVE THE USB STICK BEFORE THE DISPLAY SAYS "END"!!!
      • Ensure that the firmware revision is correct after you are complete. It should say "R3.x" followed by rx.x (where x can be any revision level) after you are complete. 
      • Turn the inverter OFF using the remote before using it with on-off switch on the control panel.

       

      KT-J Inverters - Update Steps: 

      • Download this inverter firmware update (version C1.2): Dsp3KwAC120_12V_1.2.bin
        DO NOT try to open/unzip/double click the file before moving the file to the USB drive. This exact file needs to be put on the USB file.
      • Ensure that you are not connected to shore power and that the inverter toggle switch on the RoamRig control panel is OFF!
      • Plug the remote into the inverter and find the USB extension cable (instructions here). The USB extension cable is not shown in the instructions, but will be found in the same place as the remote cable.
      • Turn the inverter on using the remote (by holding down the power button on the remote).
      • When it is on, plug the USB into the black USB extension cord attached to the inverter – circled below. Do NOT plug the USB into the remote.

      • The remote will say "UPD" (for update) indicating the update is in progress. This may take some time to complete.
      • When the update is complete, the inverter will beep continuously.
      • Remove the USB stick. 
      • Turn off the inverter using the remote.
      • Turn the inverter back on using the remote. The remote display will show the new revision ‘CX.X’, the other ‘A’ and ‘b’ code revision remain unchanged. 
      • Make sure the new the firmware level is C1.2.
